United States Police Canine Association
REGION THREE AWARD GUIDELINES

(These guidelines only apply to USPCA Region Three Events. They are not the guidelines for National Events)

Quarterly Case Nominations - Region Three participates in the "National Quarterly Case Award" program. The program recognizes an outstanding case for "Patrol Dog" and "Detector Dog" for each quarter of the calender year. A Region Three member in good standing may submit any cases in which they are involved with their canine partner. The case should be submitted on Department letterhead and signed by an Official of the Department. It should not be a copy of the police report but written in clear narrative format. The report should be double spaced. The case must be received by a member of the Region Three Executive Board prior to the "calling to order" of the following general membership meetings (third Thursday of each month):   First Quarter (January - March) - before April Membership meeting
Second Quarter (April - June) - before July Membership meeting
Third Quarter (July - September) - before October Membership meeting
Fourth Quarter (October - December) - before January Membership meeting

The Executive board will review all of the cases and choose the "Top Quarterly Case" in each category. If there is no significant or outstanding case, the Region may choose not to select a "Top Case." All submitted cases except the "Top Cases" will receive a "Citation." The "Top Cases" will receive a plaque and these cases will also be sent to the National Office for consideration as "National Case of the Quarter."

At the end of the calender year, the Region will select a "Top Region Case of the Year" in each category. These two cases will receive another plaque for "Top Case of the Year."

Cahill Award - This annual award is presented to the Region Three member in good standing who achieves the top combined score in the "Obedience" and "Apprehension" phases of the Region's regularly scheduled "Patrol Dog I" Certification Trial (this does not include make-up, mini and out-of-region trials). The member must be employed within the geographic boundaries of Region Three. The member will receive and hold a "traveling plaque" until the next regularly scheduled "PD I" Trial. This plaque was donated to the Region by Mr. Cahill. The member will also receive a second plaque which the member may keep.

Top Dog - This annual award is presented to the Region Three member in good standing who achieves the top combined score from our regularly scheduled "PD I" and "Tracking" Trials (this does not include make-up, mini and out-of-region trials). The member must be employed within the geographic boundaries of Region Three. The handler must use the same canine in each trial.

Triple Crown - This annual award is presented to the Region Three member in good standing who achieves certification in "PD I,""Tracking'" and "Detector"in a calender year (January to December). The team may obtain these certifications at any sanctioned USPCA trials (including make-up, mini and out-of-region trials). The member must be employed within the geographic boundaries of Region Three. The total search time (indoor + outdoor) will be used to break any tie scores.

All USPCA members in good standing who certify will receive either a perpetual plaque or a plate for their plaque. The top three teams (see team guidelines) will also receive awards. All team members must certify.

Team Guidelines - A team will consist of three canine teams (handler and dog). One alternate may be named. The fee for a team will be $15 for any Region Three event. All team members must come from the same Department. An exception will be made if the Department does not have three canine teams (this counts members and non-members). Two Departments, each with less than three canine teams, may combine to make a team. The team must be declared, in writing, before the event begins (i.e. first dog on field) If for any reason, a team member withdraws before that team completes the trial, the alternate will take his place.
